Due to the COVID-19 outbreak the 2020 Men's Advance has been canceled. Please plan on joining us for our Men's Retreat April 9-11, 2021 at Lake Tahoe!
Retreat is not an option!
Join us as the men of Sunrise and their sons unite for a watershed weekend. Hear heart and vision from our speaker Luke Miller, build camaraderie, pursue unity and draw nearer to Jesus as we advance into a new and exciting season at Sunrise Community Church.
Who?
This weekend is for the men of Sunrise and their sons (ages 8 and up). Our desire is for all generations of men to be together this weekend, to build camaraderie, and to know that together we are an integral part of the work that God is doing here. We have only 90 spots (which will fill up) so you are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
What?
Men's Advance (men don't retreat) with Luke Miller speaking and Jacob Kurtz leading worship.
When?
Friday, October 9 - Sunday, October 11. Check-In will be from 5-7pm on Friday (pick up dinner on your way up) with the evening session starting at 7pm. We will stay through Lunch on Sunday and head back home around 1:30pm (the drive is about 75 minutes). See the schedule tab for more details.
Where?
The Salvation Army Del Oro Camp & Conference Center in Nevada City, CA. We will be staying in heated cabins with bathrooms, meeting in the Victory Chapel, and hanging out late into the night in the Old Dining Room (see map below). There will be two other groups using the camp the same weekend, but they will mostly be on the other side of the camp (we will see them at meals). To get accurate driving directions please click HERE.
Why?
God provided us with this opportunity. For years, the men of Sunrise have attended the Men in HD Conference and we intend to continue to do so in the years to come. It just so happens that the Men in HD Conference was canceled this year due to a large renovation project at Woodleaf Conference Center.
This gave us the opportunity to do our own Men's Conference in the gap year, something that I (Greg) have been excited to do for a long time. With Pastor Luke coming on and a new season for us as a church ahead, it seemed like a divine opportunity. We jumped on it and there has been a lot of excitement for what God has in store.

How will we get there?
You are responsible to arrange your ride to and from the camp. We encourage you to fill your car and carpool. This gives you time during the ride to connect with other Sunrise men and also puts less stress on the camp parking lot. If you don't know who to reach out to about getting a ride. Email Pastor Greg at GregT@scconline.cc and he will be glad to help you.
What if I can't afford to pay?
Scholarships are available. Register online and indicate that you are requesting a scholarship. Based on your need and the funds available we will let you know if we are able to help you attend and the amount of the scholarship we are able to offer.
What can I do during free time?
There are a lot of free time options at the camp. There is a basketball court, grass lawn for soccer, frisbee or volleyball, wiffleball field, pool table, board games, cards, etc. Free time is also great for hanging out, having a deeper conversation, getting to know someone new, playing guitar, or just taking a much needed nap.
Along with the free time activities at the camp, you are welcomed to spend your free time off the camp property biking, hiking, shooting, fishing, etc. Feel free to find others who are interested and go as a group. However, these are not Sunrise sanctioned activities and are not covered under our liability. Do so at your own risk.
Can I stay in a private room?
All of the lodges are occupied by other guest groups. For this reason we are all staying in cabins. However, each cabin has a counselors room with it's own bunk bed. If you need the privacy for health reasons, please let us know and we can make one of these rooms available to you.
Can I bring a friend? Can my son bring a friend?
Because of the limited space we would want for Men's Advance guests be connected to Sunrise and/or invested in the future of Sunrise. That said, it would be great to have a few men there that become connected to Sunrise. We would love to have you bring anyone that you would hope would get more connected to our church. Also, you can bring a minor who is not your child, but a legal guardian of theirs will have to sign the liability release form ahead of time.
When will we return to Woodleaf?
The remodel of Woodleaf Conference Center will take approximately 3 years. During this time they will only be open in the summer. in 2021 and 2022 the Men In HD Conference will take place in an alternative location and in 2023 hopes to return to Woodleaf.
